The word holi mean burning negativity. There are many greates but one main is Hiranyakashipu, he is a demon king and enemy of lord vishnu. He wanted to take revenge on Lord Vishnu because he killed Hiranyakashipu’s brother. Hiranayaksha’s in ‘Varaha-avatar’ while bringing the Earth out of the water.

Origin of Holi

Hiranyakashipu ruled a major part of the earth and gave strict rules to people to worship him. He has pride and ego, which show demonic qualities, but his wish was never fulfilled. His son (Prahlada) refused to worship him because he is a great devotee of lord vishnu. So he refused to worship his father as god. Hiranyakashipu tried many ways to kill him, but Prahlada was saved by lord vishnu.

When a Father Became an Enemy

When Hiranyakashipu’s attempt failed, he told his sister holika who is blessed by fire, would not harm her. Hiranyakashipu suggested that Holika sit in the fire with Parhlada, and this time, he is also saved by lord vishnu, but Holika is burned. Holika is blessed by one dupatta that saved her from fire, but when she sat in the fire with a Parhlada, the dupatta automatically covered the Parhlada. People play with ashes of fire by throwing it on each other. Thus, celebrating the victory of good over evil. Now that day is celebrated as Dhulendi or Holi.
